چکیده

A simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of copper in tap water, polluted water, human hair and alloys. The proposed method is based on the reaction of copper with potassium iodide in acidic medium to liberate iodine, which bleaches violet color of azure B and the absorbance is measured at 644nm. This decrease in absorbance is directly proportional to copper concentration. Beer’s Law was obeyed in the range 2.0-12.0μg/ml of copper. Molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity of the method were found to be 1.760 x 10 l /mol/cm and 3.61 x 10μg/cm respectively. The developed method has been successfully applied to the determination of copper in tap water, polluted water, human hair and alloys.

Synthesis of 6-(Phenanthrene-3-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4,-triazine-3-thione as a New Reagent for the Non-Extractive Spectrophotometric Determination of Cu(II)

A simple, sensitive, and non-extractive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of copper (II) using a newly synthesized chromogenic reagent, 6-(phenanthrene-3-yl)-1,2,4,-triazine-3-thione(PhDTT), in Tween 80 neutral surfactant. To synthesize the reagent (PhDDT), amyl nitrite was added to 3-acethylphenanthrene and refluxed for 26 hours to produce 2-oxo-2-(phenanthren-3...

A partial least squares (PLS) calibration model was developed for the simultaneous spectrophotometricdetermination of Pb (ΙΙ), Cu (ΙΙ) and Ni (ΙΙ) using xylenol orange as a chromogenic reagent. The parameterscontrolling behavior of the system were investigated and optimum conditions were selected. The calibrationgraphs were linear in the ranges of 0.0–9.091, 0.0–2.719 and 0.0–2.381 ppm for lead...

Solvent extraction, spectrophotometric determination of copper (II) from environmental samples using o-methylphenyl thiourea as a novel reagent

A simple and rapid method has been developed for solvent extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper (II) using o-methylphenyl thiourea (OMPT) as a sensitive reagent. The basis of proposed method is formation of copper (II)-OMPT complex. Copper (II) was extracted with 0.020 mol L-1 OMPT in chloroform from aqueous solution in 0.075 mol L-1 potassium iodate. The absorbance of comple...

Spectrophotometric determination of osmium(VIII) in trace amounts using ethylene thiourea (ETU) as chromogenic reagent

A simple and highly sensitive spectrophotometric method has been described for the determination of trace amount of osmium(VIII) using ethylene thiourea (ETU) as a chromogenic reagent. The method is based on the formation of an instantaneous purple coloured complex at room temperature by the reaction of osmium(VIII) with ETU in strongly acidic (pH=1) solution having absorption maximum at 490 nm...
